1. Introduction

The Emirates app (the "App") is owned and operated by Emirates. This privacy policy (the "App Privacy Policy"), explains how Emirates may use the information we collect about you when you use the App. 

Some of the functionality we offer may only be available through our website so please read this App Privacy Policy in conjunction with our website Privacy Policy ("Emirates Privacy Policy"), which will apply to how Emirates collect and use personal information across the services provided to you through our website.

If you do not agree with the terms of this App Privacy Policy and the Emirates Privacy Policy then you should not download and/or access this App. If you do not agree/do not provide us with your personal information then we will not be able to provide you with our services.

2. Personal information that we collect

When you use the App, and further to you providing your consent through your acceptance of this policy (and the Emirates Privacy Policy), we will collect and store certain personal and private information about you. This section sets out the personal information this App collects and the reason it must collect it.

You do not have to provide your personal information to us, but without providing certain information (such as your mandatory travel information), you may be unable to use our services. Please also be aware that by using the App, certain information (such as your device's identity) will be collected by us automatically.

3. Information about others

You need to be mindful that we may collect, store and use information about others which you provide to us.  This includes details about friends or family, such as their name, email address, date of birth and passport details, if you book flights on their behalf through the App.

If you are booking a flight on behalf of someone else, you must obtain their consent to use their personal information, including their sensitive personal data as described below. We proceed on the basis that you have obtained these consents.

4. How we use personal information

We use the personal information collected through the App for a number of purposes including as set out below and in section 5 :

We will only use this information where we have obtained appropriate permission to collect it (for example by you consenting to the terms of this App Privacy Policy or in accordance with the requirements of other applicable laws) and will only use the information for the purposes as set out in this section or when required or authorised by law.

5. Sensitive personal information

Sensitive personal data includes data about an individual's health and religion and other categories of personal data which are closely protected.   We do not generally collect this information from you (or those you are booking for) but where we do we seek to minimise the collection and use of it.

Where you have notified us of a health issue that you or someone in your booking:

you agree that you have voluntarily provided that information to us and that you consent (and those you are booking for consent) for us to use that information to provide you with these products or services and/or determine your fitness to avail yourself of our products or services.

Where your religion or health status could be inferred from meal preferences, we will not link this information or use it in any other way other than to fulfil your meal request.

In each case, you specifically consent (on your behalf and on behalf of those you are booking for) that we can use and transfer outside your local country to anywhere in the world where you are travelling or have travelled from or where we provide products or services from.

We will only share information with such organisations in accordance with this App Privacy Policy and the Emirates Privacy Policy, or where we have a legitimate reason connected with the service we offer.

You agree that we may disclose or share your personal information with such partners in order that we may operate the Emirates service.

7. Working with other service providers and our group companies

For operational reasons, we transfer personal information to service providers and Emirates Group companies who help us manage our systems and processes, and to deliver our products or services to users.

These service providers and group companies may be located in your country, countries in the European Economic Area, in the United Arab Emirates or elsewhere in the world. Different privacy laws may apply in these countries.

You understand and unambiguously agree and consent  that we may transfer personal information to these countries so as to be able to provide our services. Where required under applicable laws we will take measures to ensure that personal information handled in other countries will receive at least the same level of protection as it is given in your home country.

In the event your personal information is transferred to a foreign jurisdiction, it may be subject to the laws of that jurisdiction and we may be required to disclose it to the courts, law enforcement or governmental authorities in those jurisdictions but we will only do so in accordance with applicable laws.

8. Keeping information secure

We will take appropriate steps to protect the personal information you share with us. We have implemented technology and security features to safeguard the privacy of your personal information.  We invest significant resources to protect your personal information, from loss, misuse, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. However, no app can be 100% secure and we cannot be held responsible for unauthorised or unintended access that is beyond our control.

9. Updating your account and preferences

If the personally identifiable information you have provided to us changes or is inaccurate, or if you no longer desire our service, then please update your user preferences through the 'My Account' area of the App, the website settings or by contacting us.

10. Keeping your records

We keep records for as long as required to manage bookings and provide the other relevant products or services anticipated by this Privacy Policy, including keeping you up-to-date with our marketing, and where we are required to by law or for records purposes. We also retain your information to make your future interactions with us convenient and to personalise the products, services and communications with you.

Where your information is no longer required, we will ensure it is disposed of in a secure manner and, where required by applicable law we will notify you such information has been disposed.

11. Cookies and other tracking technologies

A “cookie” is a small computer file which is downloaded to your device. It collects information as to how you navigate our Platforms and the internet, and helps us provide better Platform services to you and tailor certain content.  For more information on how we use cookies please read our Cookie Policy, where you can also find information so you can delete cookies or block certain types of cookie. You should note that this may have an impact on our ability to provide the Platform services to you.

12. Access Rights

You have the right to request copies of your personal information within our custody and control and details of how we use that information. We may, where permitted under applicable law, charge you a fee for responding to your request for access to the information that we hold about you, or for information about the ways in which we have used your personal information.

We will endeavour to respond to your requests within all applicable timeframes.

If the personal information is found to be inaccurate, we will correct the personal information. You also have a right, in certain circumstances, to require us to stop processing your personal information.

If you have a complaint about how we have handled your personal information you may contact us and we will investigate your complaint (full details of the complaints process are included in the Emirates Privacy Policy).

13. Termination

If you decide you no longer want to use the services offered by the App then you may delete the App from your device at any time.  Please see section 10  (Keeping your records) regarding the information we may need to retain.

14. Third Party Sites

There may be links to third party websites from within this App. Such sites are outside of our control and are not covered by this policy. The operators of these sites may collect information from you in accordance with their own privacy policies, which may differ from ours.

15. Updates

We keep this App Privacy Policy under regular review (as well as the Emirates Privacy Policy, which has a section on updates) and we may amend these policies from time to time.

If we make changes to this App Privacy Policy, we will notify you on your next use of the App and you will be given the opportunity to read the updated App Privacy Policy and may be asked consent to such changes via an electronic tick box (or similar method).

Your continued use of the App once you have been notified of an updated App Privacy Policy constitutes your acceptance of it.
